A Word From Pastor Bonnie…
Well, it happened. It came and went. Did it change you in a marvelous way? I hope you allowed it to impact your life in a positive way. By now I hope many of you have figured out what it is. Christmas! It seems like we hear about Christmas from September through December, but it goes away with very little fanfare…well except for the sales on the 26th. Something that is highlighted and pushed for months should have an impact on our lives, right? Hmmmm.
I guess I am expecting too much. If Jesus’s birth, ministry, death and resurrection have not made an impact on some, maybe there is nothing that will make an impact on that person.
I believe Advent did have a marvelous impact on Grace UCC. The Advent Celebration, the Christmas Pageant, the special services, the number of children! It had a marvelous impact on me personally. The marvelous impact had everything to do with God and nothing to do with me.
God blessed Grace UCC tremendously in December. We had wonderful leadership in charge of a variety of activities. We had wonderful teachers that thought about Sunday lessons and implemented the lessons in such a way that the children wanted to attend every week. We had many that helped pack bags for children at the shelters, and we had many just stop in the church to see where they could help knowing we did not have a secretary. All these things were a blessing to me.
Another way I was marvelously impacted was through the worship services, the music, the scriptures. God was present in my life and the life of this church in a multitude of ways. I hope you felt the presence of the Holy Spirit; I hope you saw the face of Christ in a child’s face and I hope you allowed God to impact your life in a marvelous way.
If Christmas was not a happy time for you, it is okay. God was with you wherever you were just as God is with you wherever you are today. God weeps with you, God rejoices with you and God loves you. That is what the Christmas story is all about.
Blessings to you,

Carroll Miller reported that for the first time in 2018 giving exceeded the budget and year-to-date (YTD) 2018 giving is above YTD 2017. Extra ordinary expenses included expenditures to deal with Linda DeMaio’s departure. We also paid $750.00 for 15 folks to participate in the CPR course. The October and November OCWM payments were made in November. $20,000.00 was transferred from “unrestricted investments” to be sure that we get through the end of the year in good shape.
A motion was passed to recommend the 2019 Proposed Budget, $244,484.00, to the congregation for approval.
The Personnel Committee reported Grace received 112 applications for the secretary position. Four top tier candidates will be interviewed January 3, 2019. Six to eight more second tier candidates have been identified if the first four do not appear qualified for the position.
Patti Miller reported during November she made 15 visitation attempts. Some members were visited more frequently if they were hospitalized, had special need of support, or were sleeping. She had a very bad cold and refrained from visiting for over 10 days so as not to spread any germs.
Amy Fawks reported Hanover Has Talent for 2019 will be moved to the spring. The date will be determined after meeting with the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center.
Ken Wenger reported November was another strong month for Sharing God’s Grace with an offering of $1,100 bringing the seven month total to $5,928.55. With the match of contributions over $5,000, the grand total is now $6,857.10. All money for the match must be received by December 30th.
Pastor Bonnie reported:
She did all the home communions this month—for regularly visited members.
Both the ladies and men’s donation nights were well received. It has been suggested we do something for children. We will collect items for a couple weeks and donate them to the shelters before Christmas. It has been suggested we continue to collect items and have bags ordered with the church logo on them. People could carry one or two in their car and hand them out when needed. The bags are approximately $1.50 each if we get 100.
Pastor Bonnie would like to see us plan a new pictorial member book in early 2019.
She is starting a new book/Bible study in January that will meet on a weekday afternoon.
She would also like to purchase some new Grace UCC T-shirts.
Pastor Bonnie does not have a communion set to take along for home communions. The Consistory approved the purchase of a home communion set.
Mike Tasto presented information to update and improve the technology at Grace. Some of the changes include better information storage, improved Wi-Fi, and live streaming the Traditional Service. An estimate was presented from 1stchoicecomputers, Littlestown, PA, to upgrade Grace’s technology. The estimated cost is $6,049.87.
The Consistory suggested some technology training sessions be held at Grace to help members better understand what the technology upgrades can do for Grace’s outreach.
Gary Rickrode reported to Consistory that he had 3 first-aid/ CPR/ AED classes scheduled during the month of November. Each class had 5 students in attendance for a total of 15 students. An invoice for $750.00 was turned into the office for the training.

Can you offer a few hours to help clean the church?
There are several areas where help is needed to sort through and organize materials. If you have time during the day or evening to help, you will be helping create a welcoming, orderly environment at church to gather with others. Also, what a great opportunity to work together with others!
If interested, please contact the church office.

Attention members and friends of Grace as you are doing your cleaning of drawers and closets, the bed pad ministry could use clean, threadbare sheets and pillow cases to continue their work in service of the need for the community.

We have been challenged to fill two arks for a total of $10,000. As of November 2018, we have given $5,928.55. To help us reach the challenge of two arks, our matching gift angel will match everything given till December 31, 2018 by individuals.
The last two Sundays of December, you are invited to come forward during the final hymn in each service and put your offering in the ark. Of course, you may put the money in any Sunday and mark it for Heifer International or Sharing God’s Grace. Envelopes are available in the pews.
Just as Jesus fed the multitudes during his ministry let us provide food for those in need.
