Employee Child Abuse Prevention Training and
Back Group Clearances
Clergyman, priest, rabbi, minister, Christian Science practitioner, religious healer or spiritual leader of any regularly established church or other religious organization;
An individual paid or unpaid; who, on the basis of the individual’s role as an integral part of a regularly scheduled program, activity or service, accepts responsibility for a child;
Obtaining the Training and the background clearance is not particularly difficult. It simply takes time and following the direction online.
The state has developed an online training course on recognizing and reporting child abuse. It is a relatively simple course taking no more than an hour of your time. When finished you will be able to print a certificate that can be put on file with the church. The course can be found at http://www.reportabusepa.pitt.
Question: What is involved in my obtaining background clearances?
You can go to the following websites and obtain them. You can pay for them and have the church reimburse you. Many of us are paying for them ourselves.
You need the Child Abuse History Clearance and the State Police Criminal Record Check. They are $10.00 each.
Child Abuse History Clearance Online: https://www.compass.state.pa.
Creating an account and submitting your clearance application online will give you immediate access to your results or the status of your results if your results cannot be processed immediately.

What if I do not have a computer?
Linda DeMaio can help you, but you will need to present to electronically sign the forms.
For the FBI background check, you will need to be fingerprinted at any Lincoln Intermediate Units (LIU). All locations are open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Cut-off time is 3:45 PM. As part of the registration process, each person will receive a claim number. You must obtain this claim number from Linda DeMaio or you will receive it if you are seeking an FBI clearance online your own as outlined above. Bring it with you to the LIU prior to having fingerprints taken. No appointments are necessary. It is our understanding that the LIU might have some evening appointments available for a limited time.
If you cannot find this e-mail, all of this information is on the church website. You will find a link from the "Today at Grace" e-mail.
