People Who Care
Imagine going to sleep with a growling stomach, and imagine waking up not knowing where your next meal will come from. For some families, this struggle is a reality. Fortunately, about twenty-five years ago a non-profit organization was started by just five compassionate and kindhearted people. This organization is called People Who Care and still exists today. People Who Care started off by simply raising money for people who could not afford such things as rent and paying house bills. This organization later progressed by providing food for families who could not afford to buy groceries. These groceries can be picked up at the H.A.R.T. Center in New Oxford. People who need food simply call the H.A.R.T. Center or the president of the organization no questions asked. People Who Care is headed by their President Ron Bean. The organization is also led by a vice president, a treasurer, and a secretary. In addition to the board of directors, there are presently six other members a part of this organization. These people are not compensated in any way. They take the time out of their busy lives to aid the community around them. The dedication they have towards volunteer work improves the quality of life for many people in this community. People Who Care is able to provide for people in need solely from food donations and fundraising events. They have an annual fundraising event held at the New Oxford Social and Athletic Club Pavilion every third Sunday of August. At this family friendly event, there are games for children to play, a raffle, entertainment and food. People are welcome to donate items for the auction that is held at the event as well. People Who Care also has another fundraising event every July which is an amateur golf tournament. If you would like to make a donation to People Who Care or attend one of their fundraising events please go to their website, www.papeoplewhocare.com for more information.
